I later found out a possible reason - I was restoring wrong backups in my folder - I was adding a profile into my folder that I believe was not tied to this cd key account. Guess the old profile folder was corrupted or something and prevented me from going online? Hope this helps others!! I then shut the game off and > deleted the entire profile folder <<<, ran the game again and as I entered, without having to do anything, I was online with my usual old account and with my old profiles here without having to restore them from my backup. I did as suggested followed up with entering the cd key while in game through game options, tried to create a profile as usual, but to no avail.
